GCSE Physics required practicals guarantee marks in every paper. Students who treat them as a revision topic in their own right regularly gain a full grade.

Learn the method, not the memory

For each practical, know: apparatus, independent, dependent and control variables, key measurements, hazards and how you'd improve the method. Rehearse writing this out for each practical from memory.

Master the graphs

  • Extension vs force for a spring — Hooke's Law, gradient interpretation.
  • Current vs voltage for filament lamps, diodes, resistors — recognise each shape.
  • Distance vs time and velocity vs time — gradient and area meaning.

Practise data-analysis phrasing

Words like anomaly, repeatability, reproducibility, resolution and uncertainty appear in mark schemes constantly. Learn the exact examiner-friendly definitions.

Combine with past papers

Filter past papers to practical questions only for a week, then reintegrate them with full timed papers. This makes practical marks feel automatic.
