IB Maths Applications & Interpretation past papers (AI SL & HL)
IB Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation is the modelling, statistics and technology-focused DP maths course. A graphic display calculator is required in every paper at both levels, so the assessment is less about exact algebraic manipulation and more about choosing a model, using technology efficiently and interpreting results in context.

- Higher Level adds Paper 3, a one-hour paper of two extended modelling investigations.
- All candidates also complete the mathematical exploration (internal assessment).

How to revise with past papers
1. Make the GDC second nature
Regression, distributions, solving equations and graphing must be fast and accurate — GDC fluency is directly assessed in every AI paper.
2. Practise interpreting, not just calculating
AI mark schemes award marks for explaining what a value means in context; a bare number rarely scores full marks.
3. Learn the modelling cycle
Choose a model, fit it, test it and comment on its limitations — this structure recurs throughout Paper 2 and HL Paper 3.
4. Time the extended-response papers
Paper 2 questions are long and linked; practise under full timing so you do not run out of time on the final parts.
