Data Deletion and Retention Policy

Effective 23 October 2026 · SelexIQ Education Private Limited (trading as MathsGradeUp)

This policy sets out how long we keep each category of data, how you can delete an account, and which limited records we are required to retain afterwards.

Our principles

  • We keep personal data only as long as there is a clear purpose for it.
  • Retention periods are set by category, not by guesswork, and are reviewed periodically.
  • When a period ends, data is deleted or irreversibly anonymised so it can no longer identify a person.
  • Aggregated statistics that cannot identify anyone may be kept indefinitely to measure and improve the service.

Retention periods

  • Active account data (profile, enrolments): kept while the account is active.
  • Learning data (attempts, marks, worksheets, mock papers, uploaded assignments): kept while the account is active, so progress history remains meaningful.
  • Inactive accounts: the policy target is review after 24 months without sign-in, notification to the registered address and closure where appropriate after 30 days without a response. This is not a claim of an automatically enforced deletion schedule.
  • Verified deletion requests: our target is removal of eligible personal data from live systems within 30 days, subject to identity checks and lawful retention. Backup removal depends on the provider's actual retention cycle; support can explain the applicable period. We do not certify a fixed backup-erasure time without verifying it.
  • Enquiry and support messages: 24 months from the last contact.
  • Email verification codes: minutes — they expire on use or shortly afterwards, and only a hashed form is stored.
  • Security, authentication and access logs: 12 months, for fraud and abuse investigation.
  • Error diagnostics: 90 days.
  • Safeguarding reports and related records: only for a documented, proportionate protection or legal purpose, with restricted access and periodic review. A police, court or statutory preservation requirement may require longer retention; no blanket seven-year statutory rule is asserted for every report.
  • Company books of account and supporting vouchers: where applicable, at least 8 preceding financial years under section 128 of the Companies Act, 2013. GST records, if applicable: 72 months from the due date of the relevant annual return under section 36 of the CGST Act, 2017. Longer periods apply for proceedings, investigations or another legal hold; overlapping requirements use the longer applicable period.

How to delete your account

Use the delete option in your account settings where available, or email support@mathsgradeup.com from the registered address with the subject "Account deletion". We confirm the request, verify identity and complete the deletion within 30 days. For a child's account, a verified parent, guardian, school or tutor may make the request.

What deletion means

Deletion is permanent and cannot be reversed. Progress history, saved worksheets, mock papers, uploaded files and generated reports are removed and cannot be restored. Where a tutor, school or parent holds their own copies of exported reports or PDFs, those copies are outside our control and are their responsibility.

What we may keep after deletion

  • Records needed for legal, tax or accounting compliance.
  • Records of a safeguarding concern or a serious breach of our terms, kept to protect other users.
  • A minimal suppression record where necessary to honour a request not to be contacted; this is limited to that purpose.
  • Aggregated, de-identified statistics that cannot be linked back to a person.

School and organisation accounts

Where an organisation controls student records on the Platform, deletion requests from its students are passed to that organisation, and we act on its documented instructions. On termination of the organisation's agreement, its data is returned or deleted within 90 days as agreed with it.

Backups

Backup copies may persist until the relevant provider's retention cycle expires. They are not to be used for ordinary processing of an account that has been deleted. If a disaster-recovery restore reintroduces records subject to a verified deletion request, that request must be reapplied, subject to lawful preservation. Ask support for current backup retention information.

Changes to this document

We review this document when the Platform, the law or our practices change. The effective date identifies this version. Material changes affecting your rights will be notified through email or an in-app notice. Changes do not retrospectively remove accrued rights or replace consent where fresh consent is required; a privacy-policy update is not itself consent to a new processing purpose.
