Safeguarding and Online Safety Policy
Effective 21 August 2026 · SelexIQ Education FZE LLC (trading as MathsGradeUp)
MathsGradeUp is used by young people, and their safety comes before every other consideration. This policy explains the controls we build into the Platform, the standards we require of adults using it, and how to report a concern.
Scope
This policy applies to every user of the Platform, and to all personnel and contractors of SelexIQ Education FZE LLC. Where a school or tuition centre uses the Platform, this policy operates alongside — and does not replace — that organisation's own safeguarding policy and designated safeguarding lead.
Safety by design
- Contact between users is closed by default: messaging is possible only along verified relationships (student ↔ linked parent, student ↔ assigned tutor or class teacher).
- There is no open student-to-student chat, no public profile, no public posting and no stranger discovery.
- Relationship links are created only through an approval flow or an issued code, never by self-declaration of a school or a name.
- File uploads are scoped to the assignment they belong to and served through short-lived signed links, not public URLs.
- Learning conversations with Study Coach are confined to academic support and are filtered against harmful, sexual, violent and self-harm content.
- Accounts identified as belonging to children default to the most privacy-protective settings.
Standards for tutors, teachers and staff
Verification of a tutor's identity or qualifications by us, where carried out, is a records check only and is not a substitute for the safer-recruitment checks that a school, agency or parent is responsible for. Parents engaging private tutoring remain responsible for their own due diligence.
- Communicate with students only through the Platform, and only about their learning.
- Never request or exchange personal contact details, social media handles, images of a student, or arrange private off-platform contact with a child.
- Keep a parent or guardian able to see the substance of communications with a child where they ask.
- Report any safeguarding concern immediately — never investigate alone and never promise a child confidentiality about a disclosure of harm.
- Behave professionally at all times; discriminatory, intimidating, sexualised or grooming behaviour results in immediate removal and a report to the authorities.
Prohibited conduct
- Any sexual content involving or directed at a child, in any form.
- Grooming, or attempts to move a child to private or off-platform communication.
- Bullying, harassment, threats, hate speech or discrimination.
- Content encouraging self-harm, suicide, eating disorders, violence, extremism or illegal activity.
- Sharing another person's personal information without their consent.
- Impersonating a student, parent, tutor, school or member of our staff.
Reporting a concern
Email support@mathsgradeup.com with "SAFEGUARDING" in the subject line, or use the report option next to the relevant content or message. Include what happened, when, and the accounts involved. Reports can be made by a student, parent, tutor, school or member of the public.
If a child is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services first, then tell us.
How we respond
- Acknowledgement within one working day, and immediately for reports indicating risk of harm.
- Immediate protective action where needed: suspending an account, disabling a link between users, or removing content while we review.
- A review by a senior member of staff, with records kept of the decision and the reasons for it.
- Referral to the police, a child-protection authority or the relevant school where we believe a child is at risk or an offence may have occurred. We will disclose relevant data to those authorities where lawful and necessary, without needing the consent of the person reported.
- Feedback to the reporter on the outcome, so far as confidentiality and the law allow.
Records and review
Safeguarding records are kept securely and separately, accessible only to authorised personnel, and retained for the period set out in our Data Deletion and Retention Policy. This policy is reviewed at least annually and after any significant incident.
